Cat Angels - Do you believe?
That incredible ability they have to know when you
need silent sympathy or support has to be one of the most
important qualities of the cat. No matter how aloof they are
most of the time, just when you need their support, they seem
to be there offering it up to their humans.
Many years ago, we had seen the movie 'City of Angels' and
noticed how similar to the angels in the movie were our cats
as they sat on the balcony rail, overlooking the garden and
neighborhood. We started calling them our 'cat angels'.
However, there have been more profound moments of their 'angel'
support.
During our home remodel, which was quite stressful, my husband
became angry over something that had been done incorrectly.
While he raged at the workers over the problem, Klaus came
walking calmly up to him, wrapped his sinuous little body
around and around his legs, purring. As the story was told to
me later, Frank's voice immediately became less strident, he
bent down to pick up Klaus and cuddled him in his arms.
According to the cabinet maker, the change was physical and
nearly immediate. We may have been saved a stroke or
heart-attack because of the darling cat angels.
There was also the day I was fixing lunch and cut my hand very
badly in the joint between my thumb and forefinger. I wrapped
a towel around it and went to the bathroom to wash and dress
it. It was bleeding quite a lot, so I was trying to hold my
hand over my head but I started to become light-headed. I
decided to sit on the cool tiles of the bathroom floor leaning against the
cabinets. I started to get pretty nervous because I felt a
little dizzy when out of the blue -
I have no idea where she'd been before she came to me - Flirt
came walking in the bathroom, climbed into my lap, stared
right into my eyes and finally put her paws on my chest. She
was purring. I don't remember now whether I found it funny and
so stopped worrying about myself, or if I was calmed by her
desire to help, but I do remember how quickly I was able to
recover and get on with my bandaging and my day.

So many pets in need. Can you help?
With the story of Adam, the burned kitten, in the news,
so many in his community and individuals across the country
are reminded of how easily small animals who should be beloved
pets, can instead become victims of human cruelty. It's
reinforced by hearing about professional athletes who live on
and/or own property on which vicious dog-fighting operations
exist.
In addition to Forgotten Felines of
Sonoma County who
are taking care of Adam there are many other
agencies
devoted to rescuing and caring for these victims.
Whether forgotten or
abandoned, they cannot defend themselves. Consider whether you
can help.
